This is a rare opportunity for artists working in any medium (e.g., painting, print-making, sculpture, photography, writing) and at any level of experience (e.g., high school students, undergraduate, MFA, or PhD candidates/students, self-taught, professionals) to have your portfolio reviewed individually by a diverse group of artists and art theorists.
Local and national artists and theorists whose work has been exhibited internationally will welcome you warmly, providing you time to set up your portfolio (approximately 10-20 pieces). After you introduce the work, you’ll be prompted to think more carefully and critically about the specific details of each piece, their overall sequence, what you want the work to convey, where you want to place it (if you do want to show it publicly), what titles you might give it, what language you might use, other artists to consider, and more.
Additionally, we’ll answer any specific questions you have before and after the review. Among others, reviewers include:
- Vernon T. Bateman, multimedia art-ivist
- Donnell Franklyn, clothing designer and film director
- Derek R. Ford, aesthetic theorist
While many artists find portfolio reviews to be stressful, you’ll walk away with a renewed energy and purpose for your work.
